Guide to Modifying Your ESTA Application
Understanding what can and cannot be modified in your ESTA application is crucial for maintaining your travel authorization. The Electronic System for Travel Authorization has strict guidelines about which information can be updated after submission to ensure security and accuracy.
Information You CAN Modify:
- • Email address and contact phone number
- • Address where you will stay in the United States
- • Point of contact information in the United States
- • Emergency contact details
- • Employment information and current employer details
- • Travel itinerary and accommodation information
Information You CANNOT Modify:
- • Legal name (first, middle, last name)
- • Passport number and passport information
- • Date of birth and place of birth
- • Country of citizenship and nationality
- • Gender designation
- • Responses to eligibility questions
When You Need a New Application:
If you need to change any of the non-modifiable information listed above, you must submit an entirely new ESTA application with the full fee payment. This includes situations where you have obtained a new passport, legally changed your name, or need to correct errors in critical personal information.
Remember that modifications should be made as soon as possible after any changes occur in your circumstances. Traveling with outdated or incorrect information may cause complications at the port of entry and could affect your ability to enter the United States.
